Belated birthday wishes Jan, I do hope the day was celebrated in some way that will be memorable for you in years to come foe reasons that are beautiful rather than painful...
I hope also the gallstone flare has calmed, I know from caring for a friend how incredibly debilitating they can be but your friend's home in Ireland sounds like the perfect place for both healing and rest.
Ireland—almost the entire country—holds something spiritual in its heart that is felt almost immediately we feel its land beneath our feet don't you agree?
Sending love, I hope you have somewhere to keep cool this week.. xx
Oh gallstones! Yikes. I really resonate with listening to your body. I’m working with some sort of autoimmune disease myself (Lupus is on the table), and it’s made me so present. Reagh sounds magical. I’ve some ancestors close to there. One day I’ll visit.
Happy birthday Jan! Bless your embodied spirit and meeting the challenges it presents. I'm not sure if the beautiful soul that is Lee Harris is on your radar as he recently did a YouTube video on sensitives:) Sending bright blessings, heartfelt gratitude and much love, hugging you
Happy Birthday Jan - and wishing you full and steady healing. It seems that you and I are a year apart both in age and similar emergency room experiences - that was me last year! Thank you for this gorgeousness. Your writing is beautiful and I long to get home to Ireland now. I have never visited Reagh but you've certainly inspired me!
Jan, your writing was like a lyrical balm to my sensitive Soul this morning. I'm barred from traveling by physical issues, but I was able to travel with you to my Genetic "Home" of Ireland. You paint such an elegant picture with your words and senses. Happy birthday! Keep choosing your "can you just's" with your discerning heart! Your physical health is intricately woven to your ease and comfort, as you know. All women were raised to be codependent, and Nurses and Clergy often say yes when we mean no. It wears on our cells..in my experience, anyway. Thank you again for your gift of sharing your talents with me. nora ann
Thank you so much for this Nora Ann -- I'm delighted that this took you to Ireland when you can't go physically and absolutely agree about how yes comes out while the body is shouting no. It's a long learning curve, isn't it. Wishing you rest and comfort too. x
Oh Jan I'm so sorry to read about your illness. Gallstones are so painful – Chris had them. I'm really pleased you sound as if you are taking some rest and eating well (I'd like to think the chickpea stew and watermelon salad were inspired by my book?!). And Reagh sounds wonderful. Happy belated birthday – I hope happier since.
I have been loving our sweet flags here. Never tasted them, I have to admit. The North Devon marshlands of my childhood were rich with them. Love Adam's painting.
I finished your new book a couple of days after your launch. Beautiful, lyrical, engaging; I felt the second half was particularly strong.
Reagh is definitely working its magic. The watermelon salad is a Nigella Lawson recipe minus the fetta cheese which is on the 'no' list :) and the stew probably came from a variation on Stones years ago -- apricots and figs give it a good lift. I'll have to confer with Chris :) xx
Wishing you recovery, rest, and lots of ease, Jan. I also have been seeing bright yellow sweet flag growing wild at the edge of the water! What a beautiful and delicate flower.
It's a plant that likes it's feet in the water. We have it growing in the river that runs through our garden in France and was introduced to the UK from Europe via Kazakhstan but it's not native so I think where it's found can be patchy.

Thank you for this, Jan.
I send you belated Happy Birthday wishes.
Your poetry book present sounds absolutely beautiful.
We do become reflections of what we attend to, don’t we.
I have learnt that I need to listen to and attend to my body when it starts to whisper - and not ignore it until it starts to yell!
I am sending you healing wishes.
Yes, tuning into those whispers in a noisy world is definitely key :) Thank you, Kay x
For so many reasons, you're an inspiration, Jan.

Thank you :) and will look up Lee Harris xxx

Thank you Clare -- that's a fascinating co-incidence. Being here has made us determined to plan the next visit already -- it is so soothing x

Reagh: hooray.
Recipes: shame! ;-)
Gall bladder: Chris was advised by GP friend to resist having gall bladder out. He had keyhole surgery for gall stones. No problems since.

She's so beautiful :)
Yes she is :)
Hello Jan,
I wish you a steady recovery, enjoy Ireland!
I am just curious about the sweet flag: I have never seen it here in Italy. Does it grow only in the British Isles?
