Horsetail is definitely a great plant ally for these unusual times. I think many people (worldwide to local levels) are being asked to be mindful of their boundaries physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. I know for me, on a personal level, finding a balance between my creative / poetic life and my Monday - Friday work as a paralegal has been an interesting dance.

On a different note, I am so sorry to hear that you are going through a rough time. I know I can't do much and you probably have many around you who are within contact, but if you need anything, please reach out.

QUESTION: You mentioned you pulled cards for each month and season? What deck did you use?

Thank you Alicia

Yes horsetail is really here for this moment of history.

Thank you for your kind words too -- I've got lots of kind people around and the funeral will be heavy but I'm there for wonderful family and glad to be able to be there.

I use various decks but most often The Wild Enchantments by Nathaniel Hughes and Fiona Owen or the Druid Plant Oracle.

I am familiar with the Druid Plant Oracle. I will check out The Wild Enchantments when I have a quieter moment later today.

First, sorry to hear you are going through a difficult time. Your peace and serenity often impresses and encourages me. I've been through a very important time of boundary setting recently as I face various physical and mental health issues, particularly while awaiting an autism and ADHD assessment. It's been a sifting process, accepting that recovering from cancer three years ago was a longer and more challenging process than I'd expected, but by stepping back and cutting down stressful commitments I'm finally growing into my voice and identity as a writer, and beginning to share that with other people.

Thank you for this, Miranda -- it's interesting how we can go through such huge things -- like you cancer recovery, and still not initially give ourselves the space these thresholds really need. It can take a lot to make us do this stepping back, which is a reflection on so much -- gender conditioning, the mad pace of the world we live in... But so good to hear you are pausing and sifting (what a wonderful word for this process). And that your voice is emerging as a result is wonderful.

Jan, very moved to read of the maelstrom you are negotiating at the moment. So much grief, and then lupus. And a house renovation! Not surprised boundaries blurring and dimming but it seems as though your investment in herbalism, living in a forest in a new country and writing (and all connected with it) combine to keep you grounded & present and that is inspiring. Really!

Thank you for sharing.

And I was fascinated to read about horsetail.

Thank you, Denise. The summer heat seems to have shipped up a storm, but yes -- the herbs and the writing make all the difference

Thanks for this reminder of the importance of boundaries, Jan. I'm working on some of those boundaries these days too.

Regarding horsetail, it's the main ingredient in shampoo I make and have been using for years. My hair loves it!

Great post as always, Jan. I love that horsetail is so ancient, pre-human. Yes--I always find clarifying boundaries so challenging in the summertime, so much to do, and (allegedly, :) so much "free time" to do it in!

There is something about the expansiveness and fuzziness of summer too that makes boundaries more blurred -- so this ancient, primal herb is a good support.

Great! I used my horsetail stash on one of my horses and then put it on the shelf. Today i needed some serious work with Aermeith (Airmid) due to a rough week with injuries like like silly dog bite on finger. Old dog zapped my finger instead of the syringe for his meds. So nasturtium leaves abs herbal wound powder but also needed a brew of verveine , skullcap , marshmallow root, willow bark, a bit of mullein and who hoo i found the horsetail. Thanks for that
